Duty

Standing in darkness

eyes staring a thousand miles

the rifle in his hand

his grip getting tight

A sentinel watches

beyond the forests and mountains

safeguarding those behind him

from intrusion and oppression

It’s his duty to do so

to keep watch silently

his eyes ever vigilant

for the slightest moves

Souls sleep in deep slumber

safe in their snooze

their lives in the hands

of those fatigue clad men

Ice

I hold you close

and gave you warmth

I thought my passion

comforts you

Only for you

to melt away

The closer I’m with you

the more I’m losing you

Your heart of ice

frigid to the touch

Love drove you away

Gone forever between my hands

Into a pool of water
